Overview
This is the assessment checkpoint for Side A3. It checks whether you can apply force, pressure, upthrust, non-uniform motion, Newton’s laws, impulse, and momentum ideas in unfamiliar questions.
What You Need to Know
- The test may include moments, couples, equilibrium, density, hydrostatic pressure, upthrust, resistive forces, terminal velocity, Newton’s laws, impulse, and collisions.
- Draw diagrams when forces, pivots, directions, or collision components are involved.
- Show enough working for method marks, including units and signs.
- Feedback is most useful when it becomes a targeted correction plan.
How to Work Through It
- Review the scope and instructions before starting.
- Complete the assessment independently, showing clear method throughout.
- Mark or review the paper carefully when feedback is available.
- Record the topic areas and question types that need follow-up.
Check Your Understanding
- Which part of A3 cost you the most marks?
- Were your errors mainly diagrams, method choices, calculations, or written explanations?
- Did you keep vector directions and signs clear?
- What is the first correction you need to complete?
Common Mistakes
- Starting calculations before defining the system, pivot, or direction convention.
- Omitting units or using non-SI units without converting.
- Treating all collisions as elastic.
- Explaining terminal velocity without mentioning resultant force.
Next Steps
- Complete corrections with enough working or explanation to show the improved method.
- Add the weakest A3 skills to your next revision plan.
